Stretton was gazetted as a suburb of Brisbane in 1971, and was named after George Stretton, who settled in the area in the 1880s. It is located 17 kms from the Brisbane CBD on Brisbane’s Southside.

More than 65 per cent of households in Stretton are couples with children; 22 per cent are couples without children, and 10 per cent are single-parent households.

Found in the north-west corner of Stretton are large, opulant mansions most exceeding 1000 squares. In the same area some streets are known as the Millionaires Row of Southside Brisbane and is the location for many enormous and luxurious mega mansions.  Many if not all of the mansions in Stretton sit on 1-acre (4,000 m2) of land and have luxury features.

The southern part of Stretton, towards Drewvale, consists of Stretton State College, ‘888 The Parks’ Estate,  Community Kindergarden, Childcare Centre and local convenience shop.
